José Remis Ovalle (1910-1987) was a piper from Margolles (Cangas de Onís), son of the piper José Remis Vega, «el Gaiteru de Margolles». Twice Gaitero Mayor de Asturias (1956 and 1970) and the first Gaitero Mayor de España (1970), he toured more than 14 countries across America between 1957 and 1960 and left behind the Floréu de Remis, considered the most demanding piece in the Asturian gaita repertoire and today a standard part of the training of any piper of the tradition.
