Galician gaita
A bag-and-pipe instrument native to the traditional music of Galicia. It shares a family with the Asturian gaita, but differs in usual tuning, repertoire and technique.
The Galician gaita is the most representative bag-and-pipe instrument of Galicia’s musical tradition. It belongs to the same European bagpipe family as the Asturian gaita, with which it’s often confused outside both regions, but it keeps its own traits of tuning, repertoire and playing style.
It’s documented here as a term of comparison: the difference between the Galician gaita and the Asturian gaita is one of the most frequently asked questions about the instrument, and deserves precision, without clichés.
