José Antonio García Suárez, «el Gaiteru de Veriña» (1928-2006), Asturian piper, the reference accompanist of the Asturian tonada for decades.
José Antonio García Suárez, known as el Gaiteru de Veriña (1928-2006), was a piper born in Poago (Gijón), son of the piper Ramón d’Antón. From a very young age he accompanied the great voices of the Asturian tonada, and kept playing the Asturian gaita through the rural exodus of the 1960s.
