The **xiringüelu** is one of the most recognizable dances of Asturian
tradition: a lively-rhythm tune played on **gaita** and percussion,
danced loosely, in pairs or in a circle, to the air of the romería.

It's festive repertoire par excellence. It appears at **Asturian**
festivals as a moment of open dancing, where people join in without a
fixed choreography. Some towns hold festivals named after it.

Alongside the muiñeira and the loose-dance pieces, the xiringüelu carries
the danceable part of the Asturian songbook.
