The **Asturian fandango** is a couple dance in triple meter that lives
within the **Asturian traditional repertoire**. It's the northern version
of the Iberian fandango, adapted to the **gaita**'s phrasing and the
loose, unpartnered dancing of the romería.

It's danced facing a partner, without a closed hold, with a set of
figures particular to each district. It belongs to the block of festive
dances, alongside the xiringüelu and the muiñeira.

In Asturian it's also called **fandangu**. It isn't an import of the
southern fandango: it's its own branch, with its own tempo and its own
way of being played on the gaita.
